Oidipous proceeds as methodically and objectively as if he were deposing a witness. Given, however, that he is the one being judged, and given the nature of the statement the witness is giving, Oidipous’s deliberateness is both admirable for its objectivity and abominable for its almost inhuman ability to resist the intense gravitational pull of conclusions as screamingly evident as they are significant.
