On analogy with Oidipous’s earlier vow not to be κακός (l. 76), the nature of the evils (κακά) presently requiring attention can specifically be identified as resistance to whatever the god might make clear: μὴ δρῶν . . . πάνθ᾽ὅσ᾽ἄν δηλοῖ θεός (l. 77). Like Thebes, Athens will have to follow through with submission to Apollo’s instructions, especially those bearing on the conflict between Athens and the Peloponnesians.
