When Teiresias insists, “From me you’ll learn nothing,” he may mean either that Oidipous is not disposed to learn from him or that it is from Apollo that Oidipous shall learn, or he may mean both. The prophet is only a messenger and an intermediary; a god is the principal agent. So again, not only is there no point in castigating the prophet, but to do so ignores–and so denies–Apollo’s agency.
