Truth is indeed about to demonstrate its force. Here, however, “truth” seems to mean not only the factual accuracy of the seer’s words but the justice of a divine response to an impious attitude towards them. [P] [Aj] Since what is being done to Oidipous accords not only with his present attitude but also fulfills an old prophecy, the god seems to enforce not only the truth value of the seer’s declarative statements but also the ineluctability of a Delphic forecast. [Apcma] [Apa] The god supports his truth (i.e., any truth communicated on his behalf by an authorized medium) with further expressions of his truth and the punishment for ignoring or reacting imporoperly to that truth. Divine justice in this instance supports communication between god and mortals; it is an expression of the close ties between god and mortal. [Dnc] [Apc] [Mi]
