As opposed to the multiple meanings of τύχη (cf. mm. 293-4) the Fates (Κῆρες) are divine beings who follow Zeus as he assumes the guise of lightning and storm bracketing humankind between a tumultuous sky overhead and a ground implacable beneath its feet.
