The hunt (θηρᾶν) for a position of power of which Oidipous accuses Kreon recalls the metaphor he himself used for the pursuit of Laios’ killer (l. 221). Kreon is no more on the hunt for political power than Oidipous was when he was made Thebes’ ruler. Now that he holds power, however, he guards it fiercely and wields it assiduously. Strange, then, that Apollo should have tasked him with a hunt that leads to self-discovery and end his rule. [Mg] [Md] [Mpei]
