When Oidipous names Kreon as the cause of his anger, the audience will immediately recognize his error; it is he who has misjudged Kreon. The rest of the line, though, which seems to exhort the audience to “behold exactly what sort of things the god has arranged for me” rings true, for it plausibly attributes Apollo’s anger to the fact that Oidipous respects him less than he respects his wife.
